Four days later I was back at Cole's house.
Diane came with me.
She had offered without being asked which told me she was curious about the study progress and not entirely pretending otherwise. I didn't push it. Having her there was useful and we both knew it.
The shelving was already down when Cole opened the door. I could see the difference from the hallway before I even stepped into the study. The wall where the old units had been was bare and the room had opened up in exactly the way I had known it would once they were gone.
Cole stepped aside to let us in.
I walked through to the study first and stood in the center of the room and looked at it properly.
