The house was quiet when I pulled into the driveway.
Brad's car was there. I sat in mine for a moment before getting out, not because I needed time to prepare but because the day had been long in a way that had nothing to do with hours.
I got out of the car and went inside.
Brad was in the kitchen.
He looked up when I walked in then looked away.
I walked past the kitchen and went upstairs.
The guest room was still half finished. The blue sheets were on the bed but the last few boxes were still stacked near the wall waiting for me.
I started where I left off.
I worked through them quickly. Old files, cables, books he hadn't touched in years. I stacked everything near the door for the bin and moved the empty boxes against the wall.
The room started to open up.
