I was still looking at the ring when I finally let myself look around the room properly.
It was perfect. All of it.
"You did all of this?" I said.
He looked slightly uncomfortable.
"I had help," he said.
"Who?" I said.
He paused.
"Cora," he said.
I stared at him.
"You called Cora."
"Yes," he said.
"My Cora."
"She was the most qualified person I could think of," he said. "She knows what you like. I didn't want to get it wrong."
I thought about Cora this morning, the way her phone had gone off before the meeting, the way something had shifted in her expression before she told me she wasn't feeling well and practically ran out of the building.
