“So,” Nash came striding into the office, “We found the problem with the security system.”
I looked up from the mountain of paperwork that had piled up on my desk since the day of the attack. Our victory meant that Larkin’s pack was now my direct responsibility, and there were four other packs that had been involved in the attempted coup that had to be dealt with. “So what was the problem?”
“There was a rat…”
“I set the papers down and arched an eyebrow. “A rat?”
“That’s right, you better come see.”
I was sure he couldn’t mean a literal rodent, so I pushed my chair back and followed him through the chateau to a small stairwell near the kitchens that I hadn’t set foot in for years. Given how narrow and steep it was, it was probably part of the original structure.
