BRIENNA’S POV A scream tears out of me as Adam is lifted off the ground like he weighs nothing at all. Gideon’s hand is locked around my ex-husband’s throat, and there is nothing merciful in it. He drives Adam’s skull back into the wall once, and then again, and then a third time, each smash of bone against the wall punctuating the choking sounds clawing their way out of Adam’s throat as his feet kick uselessly at the empty air. What terrifies me most is how calm Gideon is while he does it. There is no heat in his face, no strain in his arm, nothing at all of the man who took a fist to the mouth thirty seconds ago. He is holding a full-grown Alpha off the floor by his neck and beating his head against a wall with such easy nonchalance, and I understand, with a cold drop in my stomach
