NATHAN Friday night games are different. The stands are packed three deep before warm-ups even start, the band's already running through the fight song, and somewhere behind the fence Coach Reyes is pacing like he does before every game that matters, which is every game against Kensington. I'm supposed to be locked in. Captain's supposed to be locked in. Instead I'm scanning the bleachers. I find her fast—Sophie, third row up, between Avery and River, wearing a jacket that actually fits her and laughing at something River's saying, head tipped back, easy. She's not here for me. I know that. She's here because she decided she's done hiding from things that used to scare her, and a Friday night game is just one more thing she's not going to let win.
