At first, I didn’t believe what I was hearing.
I pulled the phone away from my ear, staring at the screen like maybe I had misunderstood… or maybe my brain had started playing tricks on me. But no—Caterina’s name was still there, the call was still active, and her voice kept echoing through the speaker, just as smug and venomous as I remembered it.
I froze.
Then, slowly… something hard snapped inside me. My breath came slower.
I could almost picture her face…lips curled in that insufferable little smirk, chin tilted like she’d won something she never deserved. And the image alone made my jaw clench so tightly it ached.
She wanted to see me crumble. She wanted to hear the c***k in my voice, the catch in my breath.
Not today.
