I sat there, fingers hovering over the microscope slide, meticulously studying the blood sample under the lens. Slowly, the humming of the machines around me began to fade, growing distant, like the world was retreating. And then, suddenly, my fingers froze. The image blurred, and a memory crashed into my mind, my breath hitched.
I leaned back, chest tightening so sharply it felt like my ribs were being crushed from the inside.
How many days had it been? Days since Adriano vanished from my life, since he left me alone like I’d demanded, like I’d shouted at him to do.
