Then Lily's voice interrupted my train of thought.
She gasped with delight, clutching both gifts to her chest. "Thank you, Grandma! Thank you, Grandpa!"
"Mommy, look!" Lily ran to Allison, practically vibrating with excitement. She opened the velvet box to reveal a delicate silver bracelet with a tiny moon charm dangling from it. "It's so pretty!"
"That's beautiful, sweetheart," Allison said softly as she helped Lily put it on.
"I heard you’ve been traveling all over," Lily said, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet. "Can you tell me a story about one of your adventures? I want to hear everything!"
My mother’s eyes lit up, and my father grinned, clearly enjoying her enthusiasm.
