Sharon is up early, waiting for Mattie to return to the pack house. Mrs. Dean called Nolan to complain about Sharon not doing her duties, since this was the second day she hadn't shown up. Nolan had something else to tend to, so Chad went to deal with Sharon.
Chad walks into the packhouse, looking for her. He knocks on her door twice but gets no answer. “Sharon, I know you’re in there. Open the door, or I’ll kick it in.”
It didn’t take a minute before she opened the door, looking at him sadly. “I don’t like working in the community hall.”
He ignores her and looks out the window. “Mrs. Dean said that you're neglecting your duties. Besides not liking working in the hall, are there any other reasons you feel that you can’t wash dishes?”
