After a while, Richard leaned forward and put his face in his hands.
"What do we do," he said. The words were muffled against his palms.
Stefan answered as if it were a question he had already thought through, because it was.
"We do three things, in this order. We make sure she is removed - legally, financially, and physically - from this family by the end of the week. We approach Aurora through proper channels and we accept whatever response we get, including no response at all. And we do not, ever, use the word *make it up to her* in her presence, because we won't, and pretending we can would be one more lie she doesn't need from us."
