I walked out. The elevator doors slid closed in front of me.
I pressed the button for the ground floor and watched my own reflection in the polished metal of the doors. Pale face. Dark circles I'd stopped trying to cover.
Victoria would be on the phone with Jasper already.
He would investigate. He would pull records, call contacts, do exactly what he always did with information - treat it like a business problem to be audited. He'd want to know the facts. He'd want to verify.
