The Circle is an exclusive privilege of the firstborn of the Majority Alpha, and in some very rare cases, also of the second or third child. It is something that, within my lineage, has been done for many generations.
Shortly after my first transformation, my father explained to me who the werewolves—both men and women—were who moved with him in a compact group of seven and escorted him everywhere outside our home. Until then I had always called them “uncles,” but none of them were related to us by blood. My father’s older brothers were all dead, and he only had two younger sisters, though he didn’t speak to either of them. So I never really had uncles—only kin whom I called that.
Those people who were always close to my father were his Circle: the only individuals he trusted completely.
