And there is nothing magical about this. We reproduce by having babies, not by biting. We are unique and irreplaceable individuals—intelligent, with desires and secrets. We think, we speak, we live. Many of us study, work, and have families. We live alongside other human beings. Perhaps we are born equipped to survive—or perhaps to hide—in extreme conditions, but we still feel hunger, suffer cold and heat, grow tired, become sleepy. We get sick. We get angry. We fight. We laugh and cry. We fall in love, we hate. We die. Above all else, that: we are mortal beings of this earth. All right, most of us are stronger than the average human, and perhaps we have highly developed senses—I’ll grant you that. And if we’re injured, we heal somewhat faster than normal. That much must be admitted. But
