“Understood,” he agreed, pulling off his sweater. I supervised Andre while he transformed, doing my best to keep Sasha asleep as she had been for a while. He dressed again while I buried the shed fur under a pile of dirt and fixed his appearance as best I could. Fortunately his clothes were clean, and his sneakers were dry—he hadn’t worn them again. I reminded him not to waste time. I still didn’t like the idea of leaving him to handle such a complex task alone, but I forced myself to trust him—to have faith.
