“You just told me yourself. You’re talking just like I did when I found out Andre was on the way,” Alexander teased.
“Oh, shut your snout,” Rex complained, embarrassed.
“Deyardi is pregnant?” Nika jumped in, sounding very surprised. “You kept that quiet!”
“Sorry if I made you sensible,” Alexander laughed.
Rex answered with a growl, and then he continued talking with Nika about his girlfriend and his baby; we were left out of the conversation. I smiled unconsciously, happy—but a few seconds later the smile faded from my lips. I felt a stab of pain. Why were all of them so happy in their extraordinary worlds?
Well, or as close to happiness as possible, I suppose.
