Being hidden in a luxury house with Lilo sounded considerably better before I actually had to do it.
The place Michael chose was beautiful, secluded, and apparently secure enough to survive a small invasion. It also had three security guards, cameras everywhere, and absolutely nothing for me to do except watch the clock crawl toward midnight while imagining every possible way Zander’s meeting with Victor could go wrong.
I lasted two hours before I called Michael.
He answered on the third ring. “Miss Lombardi.”
“That sounds ominous.”
“You’re supposed to contact the security lead if you need anything.”
“I need information.”
A pause.
“Zander told you not to tell me.”
“Mr. Preston expressed a preference.”
I rolled my eyes. “Of course he did.”
