Mason I saw Zoe leave Jax's room the next morning, early enough that most of the compound was still quiet, and something sharp and unexpected twisted in my chest at the sight of it, even though I'd told him myself the day before that I didn't think there was competition in any of this. Feelings, I was learning, didn't always listen to logic just because logic had already worked out the right answer. I didn't say anything to her when she passed me in the hallway, offering a small, warm smile that told me she had no idea I'd seen, and I didn't want her to feel like she needed to apologize or explain herself for something we'd all agreed to walk into with open eyes. I just nodded back, keeping my expression steady, and went to find Jax instead, because whatever I was feeling needed sorting
