Kimberly I didn’t hear him at first, too caught up in my own thoughts as I lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. The past few days had been a whirlwind of confusion, each moment with Kendrick a puzzle I couldn’t solve. This wasn’t the same Kendrick I’d come to know…or rather, fear. Gone were the sharp words, the cold stares, the calculating tone. In their place was a man who seemed… softer, though I couldn’t bring myself to trust it fully. When I finally heard the sound of his footsteps approaching the bedroom, I instinctively tensed. It was a habit I’d developed, bracing myself for whatever mood he might bring with him. But as the door opened and Kendrick stepped inside, his expression wasn’t cold or distant. Instead, there was something unfamiliar in his eyes—warmth, perhaps?
