Kendrick I didn’t move for a long time after Kimberly closed the door behind her. The silence in the room was maddening. Still. Suffocating. Like I had just been left alone on a battlefield after the last arrow fell and all I could do was count my regrets like corpses. My hand lingered over the place she had guided it to her stomach. Her womb. My child. Mine. The word stirred something primal in me. Not the possessive, territorial kind of mine I was used to. This was something else. A deeper kind of bond that terrified me. Because for the first time in my life, I had no idea what to do with it. I’d faced enemies across bloodied thrones, had built empires out of ash, had sent men to their graves for looking at me the wrong way. But I had no weapons for this war. No armor again
