Chapter 232

1492 Words

Cora (Dollar) POV The ride felt too sad, and I didn't like that. Singing always lifted the mood, so I had sung softly to myself a few pick-me-up songs till I thought of the New Beginning and sang that one. The second time through, I sang it a little louder, meaning it more, letting the words sink in. When I heard others joining in, I remembered the headpiece and blushed. At lunch, a number of ladies came to thank me for singing and for changing the mood, saying I had a pleasant voice. I didn't know what to say to that, but I thanked them for taking the time to come over and tell me how much it touched them. It was not what I expected. I am normally someone in the background, often overlooked at parties, and yet here I am at the forefront, getting praise. I don't know what to do with it.
