Violet’s eyes flick for just a second, too quick to mean nothing. Daniel shakes his head, feigning disbelief. “That’s tragic, truly, but dragging us in here like this is desperate and irresponsible.” “You were recruiting,” Atticus says flatly, “stirring fear about her, questioning her place, questioning ours.” “I was protecting the pack,” Daniel fires back, his temper slipping just enough to show teeth, “from a destabilising influence.” That word does it. I stand so fast my chair scrapes loudly against the floor, my hands slamming down on the table as my wolf surges forward under my skin, and the guards tense instantly. “You do not get to call our mate a destabilising influence,” I growl, “not after you helped put her in danger.” Hazel laughs, high and brittle. “You have no proof.”
