I finally got a lead on Hope’s father. I found an abandoned building in the area that Carlos and I had decided I should search. The place looked like it had been empty for years, and whoever had been here had just walked out and left everything behind.
When I stepped into the building, I noticed that some windows were blown out and leaves and debris had collected on the floor. Even though there were very few smells in the place, it had the feel of desperation and pain. That might explain why there weren’t any scents of animals having taken over the place. I wouldn’t stay here, even if my only other option was to sleep outside in a horrific thunderstorm.
