"Don't worry baby, I got you," I told her. "I'll light the candles." "No, it's fine," she said, stopping me from getting up. "This is plenty." I smiled as I relaxed again with my arm wrapped around her shoulders. Deidra went on and on about what we should do during this sleepover we're apparently having. She told me that her parents and she used to do sleepovers in the living room when she was a kid. She said it was because she never had any friends other than Sophie, and they wanted to make her feel special. It broke my heart, but warmed something inside of me at the same time.
