"Hi," I said, plastering on a sweet smile as I moved closer to the kids. "You all must be so scared."
"Who are you?" The older girl asked, giving me a skeptical look. "You're a lot older than who they usually bring down here."
"Yeah, I know," I replied. "But they kidnapped me. Apparently I look young enough to add to a collection."
Recognition passed through her eyes as her friend whimpered. I realized right then that I was too late. Not to save their lives, but to save their innocence. At least for these two girls. I'm sure Anthony didn't touch the younger ones.
"He's going to-" the girl started to explain, but thought better of it. Her eyes flickered to the smaller kids behind her. She didn't want to say what he'd done, what he was going to do, in front of them. But I already knew.
