Kael’s POV
Sienna was overwhelmed with joy when I opened my eyes. I could see it in the way she stared at me, as though she was afraid I might disappear if she blinked. Her eyes were swollen from crying, and exhaustion had hollowed the skin beneath them. She must have been terrified.
I remembered pieces of the darkness. Her voice had reached me more than once. Sometimes it sounded distant, as though she were calling from the other side of a deep river. At other times, I felt her pain so sharply that I tried to move towards her, only to find my body refusing to respond. Leon had been there too. He was weak, injured and fighting to heal us. Nyla’s voice had reached him through the bond, pleading with him not to leave her.
