Kael’s POV
The urgency beneath his words was clear. He wanted us out of the apartment before Maya noticed something was wrong.
“Where are you going?” she asked, looking between us. “They only just arrived.”
“We’re going to the council to help Kael stake his claim on Derbyshire,” Callum answered smoothly.
Maya’s face lit up again.
“Then Sienna will be Luna.”
The happiness in her voice tightened something inside me. Sienna had once been raised to become Luna of Silverlake through a joining with Darius. That future had been torn away after I claimed her. Now she would become Luna after all, but not through the path her father had chosen. She would be Luna because she had stood beside me when I had nothing.
I took comfort in Maya’s excitement. If I did not survive, at least Sienna would
