I got out of the car and hurried towards the house as quickly as my swollen body allowed. I was already thinking of what I could say. I would beg if necessary. I would promise that Kael and I would remain on the farm and stay away from the forest. I would ask them to give us enough time for the twins to be born safely.
“Si—Cassy, calm down,” Maya called after me, correcting herself before anyone heard my real name. “I am sure they are only visiting.”
She must have sensed my fear. Hearing her call me Cassy sounded strange, but she had no choice while the townspeople were near. To everyone in Livingston, I was Cassandra Clearwater. Maya took my hand while Gina walked ahead with the casserole. Elena opened the front door for her, and Maya guided me inside.
