“Elena, wait!”
She did not wait.
She was moving quickly in spite of her shorter legs, but I was soon able to catch up with her. I felt the crowd of photographers follow me with theirs, but a quick intervention from Kana stopped them.
When my fingers reached her outer arm, she flinched and spun to face me before I could get hold of her. Her eyes were red as a cardinal, and even the whites around it seemed slightly pink from her emotional state.
The rest of her face looked calm on the surface but I could see the struggle to keep it that way, her jaw practically shaking with tension underneath.
