I am Dr. Alexandra Hart, Chief of Surgery at one of the busiest hospitals in the city. My days are long, my patience is short, and I have zero tolerance for nonsense. Especially not from a cocky new intern who seems determined to test every boundary I have.
Dr. Riley Voss.
She’s been here exactly three weeks, and she’s already the most infuriating person I’ve ever worked with.
It starts in the OR.
We’re closing up after a complicated appendectomy. I’m focused, precise, barking orders. Riley is assisting, standing far too close on the other side of the table.
“You have such steady hands, Dr. Hart,” she murmurs during a quiet moment, her voice low enough that only I can hear. “I bet they’d feel incredible somewhere else.”
