Chapter 1
Clara’s POV.
“Make sure to be good to your brother,” Mum said as we walked to Eric’s door, her voice all sweet and trusting like she had no clue what kind of s**t she was dropping me into.
Eric isn’t living with us and hasn’t for years, but Mum and my stepdad were all excited about their anniversary trip and decided I needed watching even though I could handle my own s**t at home.
I just nodded and kept quiet, bag slung over my shoulder, but the second that door opened and Eric stood there looking tall and cold as ever with that bored stare, something twisted low in my gut.
His eyes ran over me quickly, no smile, no warmth, just a flat “I’ll handle her” to Mum before she hugged me one last time and they drove off.
The moment the lock clicked shut the whole house changed.
