Calden almost blurted out, “What’s your relationship with Asher?”
But he stopped himself, fearing he would disgust Zarelle.
Inside him, Kelson snarled with frustration. ‘Ask her! We need to know if that male is a threat!’
‘If I ask, she’ll only push me away further,’ Calden thought miserably. ‘I can’t afford to make another mistake.’
“There’s a Chamber of Commerce meeting coming up,” he changed the subject, retrieving an embossed invitation card from his suit pocket and handing it to Zarelle.
Zarelle was taken aback, feeling the weight of the invitation in her hand. This Chamber of Commerce meeting was different from the ones before. The annual meeting was a highly sought-after event, with influential figures from various industries in attendance.
