The house became a cold place I no longer recognized. Three days had passed since I handed over the keys to Gary’s kingdom. Three days of silence. Three days of living in separate rooms and living in silence. The city was still buzzing. Gary and his father were under investigation and his assets were frozen. Matthew was still in the hospital, hidden from the press, "recovering" from the shame that had finally caught up to him. The Rangers had kept Luca as Captain, the narrative shifting from scandal to redemption. I had won. I had saved the name. I had saved my man. But as I sat in my home office, staring at a sketch for a new silk gown that I couldn't seem to finish, I realized the cost was my soul. I looked at the mark on my arm. It was a permanent reminder of the night I jumped.
