"Everything looks perfect, Ava," the doctor said, checking the X-rays. "The bone has knit cleanly. You’ll need physical therapy to get your strength back, but the worst is gone." "Thank you, Doctor," I said. I stood up, feeling lighter, more balanced and walked out of the clinic and into the biting January wind of Manhattan. It has been three weeks since I walked out of the Montgomery house. Three weeks of being "Just Ava." I walked into my new studio on 5th Avenue. The windows looked out over the city, and the walls were covered in my sketches. "Morning, Ava" Sarah called out from her desk. She looked energized, her eyes bright. "The Vogue feature just went live online. They called you 'the phoenix of New York fashion.' Orders for the spring line are already backed up through April."
