The moment we arrived back at the mansion, Mr. Gabe escorted me inside. Almost immediately, Helio came into view. The instant he saw me, a warm smile spread across his face. I walked straight over to him, feeling that familiar pull in my chest.
“Alpha,” Mr. Gabe announced with a respectful bow, “I brought back your wife in one piece.”
Helio nodded, his eyes never leaving me. “I can see that. Thank you, Gabe.”
“And oh—” Mr. Gabe added, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips as he caught Helio’s attention again, “it seems to me that your mother-in-law does not like you.”
My eyes widened in shock. “She never said that!” I quickly defended my mom, but then I heard Helio, he was already laughing softly beside me. I snapped my head toward him, slightly embarrassed.
