Halton’s POV
I'd come to the sunroom to discuss the phone call I just got from Wilson with Joan when I stopped in my tracks. I couldn’t hear what they were saying at first, but after I opened the door slightly, their voices carried. They didn’t hear the door because they were talking. Joan had just told Noel that “Options never meant marriage,” and she was clearly angry.
I hadn’t meant to eavesdrop, but something in Joan’s tone made me want to hear more. I had a bad feeling in my gut that I was about to discover a few things I didn’t want to know.
