Jade Sterling arrived at Patricia's conference room exactly on time, alone, in a dark coat over grey wool, with ice-blue eyes and the specific quality of someone who had spent considerable time deciding which version of herself to bring into this room.
She sat down across from me.
Looked at Patricia.
"You said no lawyers," she said.
"I said I wasn't bringing lawyers." I held her gaze. "Patricia Mills is here as the contracted agreement handler for my arrangement with the Wolfe family. She's a participant in this meeting, not my legal representative." A pause. "If that's a problem, we can end this now."
