“Who is there?” My father’s husky voice echoed from the other side of the door as I knocked multiple times on his office door.
“It’s Riley!” I yelled loud enough for him to hear.
There was a brief silence before he spoke again. “I’m busy.”
My father always had time for me, even if he had so much work to do. He barely dismissed me just because he was busy.
He was just giving me subtle hints that he didn’t want to speak to me.
But I didn’t care. Even if my feelings were hurt, I was determined to speak to him. I wanted to apologize. I wasn’t happy with the way everyone was avoiding me.
“I just need five minutes,” I replied, my voice desperate.
“Come back later, Riley.” His tone was firm and serious.
