I woke up Wednesday morning and barely made it to the bathroom before throwing up.
Kai was there instantly, holding my hair back, rubbing circles on my back while my body betrayed me. Morning sickness. The first real physical sign that this wasn't just a positive test—there was actually a life growing inside me.
"I've got you," he murmured as I heaved again.
When it finally stopped, I sat back against the cold tile floor, sweating and exhausted. "This is only the beginning, isn't it?"
"Nine months of it, if the books are right." He handed me a damp washcloth. "But we'll get through it together."
I pressed the cloth to my face, feeling the nausea still churning in my stomach. "Tomorrow's the appointment."
"I know."
"He'll be there."
"So will I."
