Natalia’s POV
Andrei froze, one foot on the stairs, the other on the floor of the foyer. He turned slowly to look at his Beta, and I could see the hard set of his jaw, the tense line of his shoulders—all markers of frustration.
“Again?” he muttered, as if he could hardly believe it.
The Beta’s shoulders slumped as he handed Andrei the two letters he was holding. “These just arrived. The Alphas say they have no interest in an alliance at this time—that they’re focusing on fortifying their own defences, not combining forces with an Alpha who… Well, maybe you should read it yourself.”
Andrei snatched the letters away, green eyes hardening as he scanned what they said. A low growl grated in his throat at whatever he read.
