I didn’t have any words to explain how I was feeling.
Everything inside me was tangled — grief, fear, and confusion. I just kept my fingers crossed, hoping that Benjamin was going to be okay.
If something worse happened, we were going to be in big trouble. I paced around the hospital hallway as I waited impatiently for Patrick to come outside.
I wanted him to come out and tell me that everything was okay. But when the door finally swung open, I didn’t like the look on his face.
It meant that something was wrong.
“What happened? Were you able to convince her that you had nothing to do with it?” I asked, folding my hands across my chest and staring at him in anticipation.
“No. She wouldn’t believe me.”
“Wow,” I muttered under my breath.
