“Are you sure you’re good?” Jamal’s concerned voice echoed from the other end of the line.
“Yes.”
“So how was your day?” He asked.
“Fine.”
There was a short pause. “Valerie?”
“Huh?”
“Is everything okay?” He asked, his voice tense.
I nodded even though he couldn’t see me. “Yes, everything is okay.”
“It seems like you’re tired. We’ll talk better in the morning.”
Without letting me respond, he ended the call.
I tossed my phone on the bed as I paced around the room. How did I even get to this point? After all the promises. After assuring him that nothing was going to happen between me and Patrick.
