“You finally came.” Madison couldn’t stop smiling as she saw me.
I nodded, adjusting my tie. “Yeah. I just needed a distraction.”
“How about Valerie?” She asked, raising a skeptical brow.
“Valerie is fine. And I’m just meeting with you for lunch. Nothing more.” My voice was firm.
Madison had been blowing my phone non-stop. She claimed she wanted to talk to me. Since I felt so alone, I just decided to hear her out.
She pushed her hair backward. “Oh.” A disappointed sigh escaped her lips. “I understand but I’ve seen everything that’s happening on the news. I just wanted to be there for you.”
Normally, I wouldn’t have been flattered by Madison’s words, but I really wanted to hear from somebody that they wanted to be there for me.
