Heat.
Unbearable, suffocating heat that came from inside me rather than outside.
I thrashed on the bed, kicking off the covers that suddenly felt like they were made of fire. Sweat soaked through my shirt, plastering it to my skin.
What was happening to me?
My bones ached. Deep, grinding pain that started in my spine and radiated outward. Like something was trying to break through from the inside.
I rolled onto my side, curling into a ball. That didn't help. The pain just intensified.
"Oh goddess," I gasped, clutching at my chest. My heart was racing, pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat.
