“What are you talking about?” The former queen asked impatiently.
The witch tsked, shaking her head with a bitter laugh.
“Have you forgotten already? King Edric wiped out the entire clan that held the key to the Upside Mountain. The Lunaris clan. Without one of their bloodlines to open the hidden paths, the mountain’s power is sealed. I cannot simply walk back in and draw more magic like it’s a village well.”

The words hit me like a slap. I froze against the wall, breath caught in my throat.
My people…someone from my clan had given her the power to do this? To curse Rion before he was even born?
To empower the monster who finally led to our destruction?
My heart wrenched so hard it felt like it was cracking open. I was the only Lunaris left alive.
