I didn’t stop running. Not for a second. My boots pounded the stone corridors like thunder, lungs burning, chest heaving, but I kept going…past the buzzing lights, around corners that blurred in my vision, heart slamming so hard I thought it might crack my ribs.
The words I’d just overheard kept slamming into me over and over: ‘Rion dies this year. The thread. The curse. My clan. My people. Tricked. Used like pawns in their sick game then slaughtered afterwards.
It all made sense now.
I have always wondered why Edric did it. I've always wanted to find out if there was a reason or if he just woke up one morning and decided to wipe out the most peaceful clan in all of the realm.
But now I have my answer. And he will pay for it…dearly.
