It feels like we've been in the ICU waiting room for ages with Laura's father. The visitation hours here are so restrictive.
As I glance at Laura, I wish there was something I could do to ease her suffering. It's ironic; I have all the wealth in the world and can buy anything I desire, yet I can't buy back her mother’s health.
Suddenly, my attention is drawn to my mother approaching with someone by her side. How did she get here? The last I knew, she was at Laura’s house.
They walk over, and my mother introduces the newcomer.
“This is Dr. Rowland, a dear friend,” she says.
Mr. Schneider steps closer, and I make the introductions, “Peter, this is my mother, Evelyn Case, and Dr. Rowland.” I then turn to my mother and add, “This is Peter Schneider, Laura’s father.”
