I tried to imagine what my life would look like if I stayed here. If I accepted Kai despite everything. Would I become like them? Would I lose myself trying to fit into this broken family? Would I spend years hoping that Luna Helene would finally accept me, while she continued to manipulate my relationship from the shadows?
The image made my stomach turn. I couldn't do it. I couldn't live like this.
Enough was enough.
"Luna Helene," I interrupted her mid-sentence, my voice surprisingly calm. "I'd like to break up with Kai and reject our bond."
Luna Helene stopped talking, her eyes widening in shock. For a moment, she just stared at me like she couldn't believe what she'd heard.
"What did you say?" she asked slowly.
"I want to break up with Kai," I repeated, enunciating each
