For a second—
I didn’t understand what she had just said.
The words were there. I heard them. Every single one.
But my brain—
My brain just… stopped. Short-circuited, really, crashed and there was no signal of any neuronal activity.
No synapses. No response. I was like an automaton without any freaking input.
Every thought I had ever learned to form just slipped through my fingers at once, leaving me standing there with nothing but instinct and feeling and something dangerously close to hope clawing its way up my throat.
