“Everyone needs to quickly exit the courtroom,” the judge instructed us.
The bailiff near us opened the double doors to let us leave in a hurry. The judge and both counsels were led to another area while the jury and the rest of the room ran out into the hallway, heading to find a safe place to hide.
The courtroom was clearing quickly. We saw several state troopers and additional bailiffs running towards us to enter the courtroom that we were all trying to vacate. People were screaming, but I was too stunned to move at first. I had a sinking feeling that I knew what had happened. I hoped that no one was hurt, but I was quite sure that someone was.
